Amazingly people still don’t research the market for their car insurance. Its critical that you do this, as you will be amazed about how much you can save by switching. Doing it online takes 5 minutes and I’ve listed my 5 top tips for streamlining your quote.
1) Get an anti-theft device fitted.
There are many options here, but make sure that the one you get fitted is insurance company approved. The way todo that is call the best one on your short list after checking for quotes – and then ask them whats the discount you can offer for an approved system or alarm. Most often the discount will be larger than getting the alarm fitted.

2) Multi-car discount
Are you driving another car? Are you the primary driver on another car. If you use this one less often, then declare this and ask. Most often you should be able to fill this in on your questionnaire.
3) Don’t pay monthly pay annually
Most companies will let you pay monthly for their insurance – but there is catch. Often they will charge you interest for the total annual amount. To get round that, pay for it on your credit card or borrow the money at a lower interest rate. Most credit cards will give you a zero interest rate for a year. You can then setup your payments to increase to your credit card to pay it off. So all you need to check is that the interest on your credit is less than the interest rate on the insurance policy.
4) Leave off the extras
Many insurance companies will throw in legal cover or rental car cover. Do you really need this? Your legal cover might already be in your house insurance – so its worth checking.
5) Get a different car!
Ok so this might not be an option if you are renewing. But if you are shopping for quotes – check the insurance status of you car. What risk is it? With stating the obvious – Sports cars, SUVs, 4×4s, modified cars, and cars that are easy to steal are going to attract high premiums. Be selective.
